This Bosch GLL3-80 Laser Level Reviews for 2012 discusses the pros and cons of the 3 Plane Leveling-Alignment.

Pros:

1. This is a very high end 360 degree three axis laser level.
2. It self levels, and beeps extremely loudly every time it isn't.
3. Tempted to tape over the speaker on the side to quiet it down.
4. The unit itself also seems pretty bullet-proof.
5. Tile work, wall, ceiling, cabinets etc. & lays it all out with little effort.
6. Bosch GLL3-80 makes layout, leveling and squaring a breeze for cabinet installers, finish carpenters, remodelers, electricians, tiles layout and other a lot easier ,more precise and saves you lot of time.

Cons:

1. For the new unit, the deviation from level/plumb for the horizontal line and one of the vertical lines is well within tolerance, but the second vertical line is right on the limit, right out of the box.
2. The two vertical lines were within the specified tolerance, but the horizontal level deviation was more than twice what the manual says is the maximum permissible.

Bosch GLL3-80 laser level is absolutely worth the money if you have to do commercial work that requires a straight and true line across long walls around rooms. You can also center to the middle of a room with the three-plane setting; this is actually cooler than it sounds, really. There are settings that change the number of planes displayed, so you don't always have to use all planes.
